Hope
Posted under People I love, Witterings
Introducing Buster, my Dad and his wife’s dog…looking hopeful, ever hopeful, that someone might throw a ball for him. You’d think he be in his element with two little boys visiting but, no, my little wusses are scared of dogs, for no reason. It’s irritating; we live on a farm where there are dogs around all the time, when the neighbour’s dog had puppies there were 12 dogs in their house for a couple of months. That’s a lot of dogs to dodge with namby pamby boys in tow.
“It’s better to travel in hope than it is to arrive”…which twit said that? Clearly they were dillusional, or they’d been travelling for so long they’d lost touch with reality. Yesterday it took 8 hours to drive to my Dad’s house…that’s at least 3 hours longer than it should have done. And about 7 hours longer than the boys could readily cope with. They behaved beautifully however, which is more than can be said for their mother who may or may not have thrown a couple of hissy fits.
Then my back went in to spasm and now I’m half crippled. Worse, my iphone seized up and I lost communication with the ‘real’ world and all hell broke lose.
Believe me, it was WAY better to arrive than it was to travel, with hope or without…poor Bertie, after 7.5 hours, declared rather gloomily, “I don’t think we’re EVER going to get to Grandad’s house”. Sob.

Eight hours to drive to your father’s house? Does he live in Scotland? That is just horrible.
The eyes on that dog are so incredibly soulful. They really do express hope and pleading. (I’m siding with the megaboys, though. I hate when dogs jump on me and try to lick me! I would throw him a ball just to get him off of me.)
When I visit my family, it is the arriving that I dread! I love the ride, though!
Trapped! Like rats! For eight hours! Torture! Poor Bertie!
Eight hours??? Why? This is not a big country! :)
Great shot of the dog! Would make an excellent dog food photo! And, yes, eight hours in the car is a long time, even for big kids…..

I know..8 hours, cry. M25 was like a car park, 25 mile queue. Howl. Still recovering. Plus we went to the balloon fiesta in Bristol and, erm, there were no balloons. GAH!! Having to go out tonight to seek them…
I remember drives like that. Yikes. Nice glass (or 3) of wine and you’ll be better.
Love the dog, he’s beautiful!
Ok, the butterflies are sooo not you, I thought I was at the wrong address! So l just finished picking up my daughter from college for her 2 week summer break…and then will turn around and drive her back. It’s eight hours each way…sigh. At least I don’t have babies in the car. We used to stop every 2 hours when girlie was tiny. I knew every rest stop between moms and Denver. That would turn the trip into 10 hours. I find books on tape helpful. Keeps me awake and entertained. Hope the back is better soon, and have a good visit with dad and his beautiful beastie.
when I got up this morning my husband – who was up earlier – said: “don’t need to get up, the internet is completely gone.” what strange new kind of panic, no Sput for my early morning expresso, no comments on my own blogs, no news… as our internet provider is not very reliable we got used to “better slow access than no access…” Big sigh when it decided to work again.(it took 45 secs to open your comment area and it took quite a stay in the bathroom before to opren your page!!!!)
All the best to your back!!!! I had something like that last year, I was in a bed and breakfast and couldn’t move anymore!!! I somehow made to my bed but later I couldn’t get up anymore. Very strange panic too. But I was really lucky that a family doctor in that town was very much into chiropractice and so it took only a shot to relieve the acute pain and one of those famous chiro-moves and I was restored… and left the place a few hours later towing two cases from train to train.
You should have gone Saturday, we were there then.
Hope you managed to see a balloon or two. x
Massage Therapy: consider it for that spasm in your back. It might even be good for your writing! Chiropractic work, too, if you are up for it. The writing and photo topics you might gleen from those experiences would be fun! Plus you would be in less pain and less stress!
About the drive, the dogs, the balloons and the iPhone: Egads! Hope the iPhone came back to life. Get pics of that balloon fiesta without balloons. Or, better yet, come to ours: The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. Quite the experience! Hundreds of balloons!
Are we there yet?
Nuff’s been said about the 8 hour journey… :-( M25 is my idea of hell. I’m so glad I sold that car.
I’m a dog person and this one is gorgeous! I’m voluntering to throw that ball!
listen to me dear friend. 8 hours is not too far. it’s just a bad drive. i live five minutes away from some fam members and argh… lol
i have this same look of hope on my face- i hope i get some chocolate cake today. : )
One love~
That first comment really caught my eye. You could drive to Scotland in eight hours, couldn’t you? Of, I’ve GOT to live in Europe some day.
forget all that other stuff…i would have curled up in the fetal position and cried if my iphone seized up and i lost contact with the outside world. what a truly horrifying story. so scary that it should be made into a horror movie.
