Lurkers…DELURK!
Right…I’m putting the kettle on, let’s have a cup of tea and a good old natter. And let’s break open the cake while we’re at it shall we? Seems a pity to leave it there, uneaten, unloved…it’s calling to us…
This post is for the lurkers out there…hello to you! Won’t you say hello back? I’m generally quite pleasant and friendly although I can understand your reticence to make yourself known, possibly the revelation of the Grudge Book so early in my blogging career was somewhat ill advised. If I promise not to put you in the Grudge Book, won’t you delurk and introduce yourself? Pretty please? Don’t make me beg…
It struck me last night that I have got into the mindset of thinking that the only people reading my blog are the people who regularly comment on it. And my Dad. And MrSpud. But then they ‘have’ to read it, they’re too afraid not to, they’ve seen the tantrums I can throw…
So it came as a surprise that it turns out that various contacts from Flickr also read it; they mostly don’t comment but they are reading it. This really threw me…I don’t know why this hadn’t dawned on me before; I can see from my stats that a lot of people are visiting but only a handful comment regularly. That’s completely usual I know, I’m not angling for more comments! Not least because I’m a bit rubbish at acknowledging them and responding to questions (although I am on a mission to rectify this). I just want to know who you are…and I’d like to read your blogs..or look at your photos on Flickr or whatever else you do.
I find it hard to uncover new blogs to read; but I nearly always love the blogs of people who read mine. I guess that’s not rocket science is it? So give me a hand here and tell me about your blog, or suggest blogs you think I might like. My reader is curiously empty…won’t you help me fill it up again? My regular reads are in my blog roll, over there on the right.
So, have a cup of tea (I like builders tea, but I keep a box of dust Early Grey and a variety of herbal tea in the cupboard for people with more class than me) and a bit of cake. Squidge up on the sofa and tell me about yourself. If you stay long enough I might get the wine out…

I’m so with you on delurking people
so HI! And make mine Earl Gray please.
Helloooooo…..we have a taker for a cup of dust. Coming right up…!
De-lurking here! I’m Andi, found you thru the blog roll on Moments of Perfect Clarity, I found her thru another blog roll I can’t remember now. Love the photos and the writing, something to aspire to. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and write about a variety of things such as food, books, movies, travel, french culture (my husband is french), and more. I post on a daily basis, although today’s post is a bit embarrassing. Love tea, Earl Grey and any form of green suits me. Thanks for the welcome. I love the Blog Camp concept and would have enjoyed a trip to part of Europe I have not been to yet.
It seems that I de-lurked just in the nick of time
But I admit to often reading without commenting–in general, not just with your blog–out of sheer laziness, I think.
Hihi you already know that I don’t lurk. I jumped on your bandwagon straight away ROFL
Waves cheerily at NBF Andi…helloooo…will be stalking you round your blog later! hmm, another Earl Grey? Might have to make a pot then. Yes, organic green tea in the cupboard…
Jelica…tee hee! Don’t get me wrong, it’s not about the comments. REPEAT IT’S NOT ABOUT THE COMMENTS!! There aren’t enough hours in the day to comment all the time, on everything.
I just want to say hello to the people who are reading, and see what they write/do!!
Brigitta…ha, nope…you’re definintely not a lurky lurker…x
I guess I should de lurk, although I already kind of did by commenting on the magic roundabout treasure post. Anyhow, I’m lobster on Hitched although I haven’t been there for a while (too hard to keep up when you start each day 5 hours behind the general populous) and I never did get round to joining the HPAD project although this is the 3rd year I’ve said I will and have instead busied myself admiring everyone’s efforts. So ti’s done, I’ve de lurked – where’s my tea and cake?
What a lovely invitation…and a great way to draw people out….I have been lurking for some time as I know that you are one of Julochka’s crushes…and well, she’s the Fairy Blog Mother….anyhoo, I think I was intimidated by the linke for “joining” the site, vs the little link at the top left of most blogs that says “follow blog”….however, as you can see, I got over that! I love your blog, especially the costumed posts.
For me, I’ll have some of the builders tea, just to see what it’s like…a little adventure this morning.
P.S. my favorite tea is a blend I get a a little tea boutique in our mall – Teavana – the tea is Rose Marzipan.
P.S.S. thank you for stopping by my blog and sharing…much appreciated!
S
I´ve allready been through the de-lurking programm….not through the de-wining programm though. So can I have a nice big glass of wine? Or is is too early yet?
And hi to all the de-lurkers!!
Oh FINALLY someone wants to wine…nips off to fridge to remove icey white….slurrrrp.
Aha Sam/Lobster..a purple place escapee…right, cake coming up. HPAD is a major commitment. It’s 4.40, I’ve not taken a photo yet and I can feel the panic rising…stresssssssss
Shannon, ah yes that little ‘follow’ button is only on blogger blogs. But thanks for following! I still don’t ‘really’ understand google follow. I’m a bear of little brain…
Rose marzipan would definitnely not be my thing, I really am not a fan of marzipan. But MrSpud likes almond tea so I would think he’d like it.
Costumed posts…i’m cooking up another project which may well involve a bit of dressing up. Hoorah.
hello! I am already de-lurked, but this is a great opportunity to tell you how much I like your blog, you write so beautifully & everything is so creative and thoughtful, it makes me all jealous!!
I don’t lurk, but I may not comment on EVERY post, but you already know that and you already know my blog. LOL!!!
I’m your Flickr friend now though. Yay!!
Thank you Kristine, ah you know I actually thought you were someone else. Ooops, there are lots of Kristine/Kristin/Krysten etcs and you aren’t the one I thought you were. This is where not replying to comments comes round to bite you on the bum..must try harder…see me after class..put yourself if the Grudge Book Spud.
Your blog looks wonderful even at first glance…will scoot around it properly once the screamers are in bed.
x
No lurking here! I adore your blog and funny comments.
Hey Deb…cup of tea? xx
Hello,
You know I read your blog I think? Here’s mine, although as you can see I haven’t done much to it recently. Too busy, too riddled with swine flu…
Mine’s milk no sugar, alternatively red and minimum 14% abv.
Cheers!

Hello, I read and lurk!
*Wave*
What an awesome overture! Picture me de-lurking. Just as you said, I came across one of your photos on flickr and had to take a peek at your blog. I’ve become quite the fan. Earl Grey gathers dust at my house as well. I lean more toward Chai tea when it’s too early for wine.
I read you daily lovely. I get very very few comments on my blog so I rely on the stats to get the reassurance that it’s getting read. I’m not on any blogrolls as far as I can tell, but my blog is quite specific in it’s nature. I love blogs of any kind, it’s such a great insight into the minds of some really interesting people
)
I like your invitation, always up for a cup of tea
I’ve recently found your blog and it’s already in my reader ^_^ feel free to visit mine. I’m surprisingly bohemian these days. Looking forward to read more!
*Waves*
Redbedhead delurking and declaring her nosy tendancies! I don’t have a blog but am gradually revealing more on FlickR and through my PAD.
I do love your blog and read it most days.
I am not a tea drinker but if you are offering a nice dry wine I wouldn’t turn down a slurp.
~~~waves madly from the other side
~~~waves madly from the other side of the world, trips without spilling a drop~~~~ get’s up and continues waving madly~~~~
I love you spud… I have all your greatest hits… and remember the time you wore a wig because you wanted to look more like me… are we stalking each other?
hi spud! I don’t lurk (I think?) but I wouldn’t mind a cup of tea
am a great fan of yours, as you may know, and I think you take amazing photos!
oh, and hello everyone else
I’m just here for the wine. Please. And thanks. I promise not to spill… much anyway. At least not until I’ve had a couple. Great ice breaker (this post I mean, well and the wine too I guess).
Now looky here! I just went off to put the Megaboys to bed and when I get back the party has REALLY got going. Wine and everyting…Ali is waving frantically….total strangers delurking so double cheers to you Gabby and thisisj. Welcome to the funny farm
Right that’s it, I’m sending MrSpud out to the garage for more wine. And snacks, we need snacks now…cake is not our friend anymore. I’m thinking olives, crips, cheese twists, dips etc etc…but, mainly, more wine…
Hoorah for virtual parties! Cheers, cheers and thrice cheers…
C’mon lurkers, don’t be shy. We’re all a bit giddy I will admit, but don’t let that put you off. DELURK!
As I am already delurked I would die for a cup of David Rio Chai or better an adress where I could order that mega-hyper-delicious instant stuff. Apparently this designer-beverage didn’t find it’s way to Ireland yet. But a cup of wine would be nice – and some black olives please (you have to remortgage to afford some good olives here)!
Really Eliane? Olives pricey in the Emerald Isle? Shabby….I’ll get in extra for you. x
thanks, they are delicious, remind me of good old days in Greece, my first trip with new licence and new car and retsina and more olives… slainté!
Helloooooo! Bit late to the party, I’m afraid, but would love a drop of that wine, please! Tho’ not sure if I am really delurking or not… have commented once or twice, but not nearly as often as I read. Thanks for hosting this virtual shindig, and for the gorgeous words & photos!
Phew thank goodness you rocked up, thought it was winding down already….sends MrSpud off for more wine.
Time for party games? Truth or Dare? Twister?
Haha, looks like quite a few lurkers have unveiled themselves. It’s always nice when people comment, isn’t it? Makes a blog a much cheerier place to be. xx
Hello! I came across your blog from Moments of Perfect Clarity and What I should Have Said and probably a few others. I live in the US, have blogged on and off for years, but the past several years I’ve been more off. I post something now and again on my blog when I’m not swamped with “real” life, whatever that is. I like your blog for its creativity, the photography, and your upbeat view on things, and I always love to read about people who live in other countries so that I can marvel about how different and yet how alike we are. Cheers!
oooh late comers..fabulous, welcome….wee birdy, my favourite bird…pours extra nice wine for her…x
And Nancy, a proper lurky lurker with one of my FAVOURITE names ever. Oooh, yes, real life…such a drag? I’m interested that you think I’m upbeat, in real life I’m a glass half empty person; ask MrSpud, I’m always moaning about nothing important.
Cheers to you! x
I commented last night on Flickr that I love your blog, so here I am ready for some tea and cake and a nice comfy spot on your sofa. x
I’m an Earl Grey with extra bergamont gal. No wine for me, I’m a light weight. One drink and I’m looped and asleep. Two drinks and I get sick. Hey, that sounds like a good post. You are soooo inspirational Spud.
Well.. well… just reading all the comments sounds like a party to me…I don’t lurk….follow openly… so can I still come in??? Like Bambi said… I’m here for the wine too.
and Spud thanks for all the words you’ve left behind on my little blog (today by the way… my #100)… wow…ok time for wine
wow 2am where you are… so safe to assume I won’t be getting that wine… oh well, (shhhh I’ll just pour some for myself) good morning to you
Halloooo! Thought I had commented before… Maybe that de-classifies me as a lurker? Dunno! I find you absolutely hilarious and brave! (I do not photograph well and so am in complete awe of your 30 days posts!) Thanks for being a very inspiring read with the bonus of a belly laugh regularly. I have a blog, don’t know if you have been… brownzootales.blogspot.com Would be lovely and intimidating if you stopped by!
I’m no lurker. But, I do know what you mean. I am always thinking that my only readers are the commenters. And my Mom. In fact, I am always shocked when someone I know mentions something they read on my blog. I stumble and fumble around. A lot. I need to find a way to be more graceful about it. I always want to holler, “Comment, why don’t you??”
what a fantabulous idea you had! you are one clever cookie! speaking of cookies, is there still cake?
xoxo
I am officially a now-de-lurked lurker. And, I fear, way too late to the party. Despite me lateness I still wanted to say hi!
Delighting in delurking!
Have you checked out my NEW blog?
Ooops! I’m so late to the party!! Has all the wine finished? Can I have some pop instead then please, as I have a lot of ironing to get through tonight!
Also late to the party, but am so happy that I stumbled upon you as a result of Fragrant Muse (and lurking on julochka and extranjera). Big fan of your photography and family escapades!!
Hey Spud you should know that you are always good for a good read of an evening and rudely I even passed your blog onto someone else the other day!!
Its very odd when your online life collides with other lives… should be banned I think
I would like wine, lots of it please!
(I am from hpad and have no blog for you to feel obliged to visit rotfl!)
i am here…but tired and only capable of one line…x
Hey all you late girls…the rest of us have drunk ourselves sober but we’re willing to go the extra mile and get some more wine out….there a few crumbs of cake left?
Lovely to meet you all, old friends, new friends, lurkers, occasional commenters….all welcome! I have some new blogs to stalk. I’m happy!
Cheers…x
Hello, a party. Don’t bother about more wine, I’ll just empty the last drops of some of these bottles. Or are you returning to tea now? Yogi tea with licorice flavour?
I’m new to your blog but totally addicted. Right now I’m at a clean-up fase, my blog has no design, no introduction, and no blogroll. But regular posts and pictures
Simplifying things for my self, but not for my readers I guess.
Oh, I see there is a bowl of peanuts on that table, nice with the wine. So many interesting people here, going to mingle for a while.
Hey hey! I am a regular reader but not sure I have actually commented yet, that’s really bad isn’t it.
Erm… blogs… well, mostly just my brother’s art one which obviously I really like http://thebenstreet.blogspot.com/
You’d like this piece of his I think http://www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk/blogon/art_news/erik_berglin_saatchi_online_critics_choice_by_ben_street/5814
Keep up the good blogging! xx
Hi, there! I read and lurk too, like Lindsay Loo Brush put it.
OH POOP. I had this long, beautiful comment typed out, but then my internet went into rebellion.
Well, I’ve been reading you since you were ten posts old, and it’s been a fascinating, zany experience.
My own blog is full of adolescent ramblings and musings, but feel free to stop by. I can offer you some yummy icons, if nothing else.
I love photography but haven’t posted any of my own pictures (yet), and my other great love is Band of Brothers, that most beluvered of HBO mini-series.
AND I’d like you to know that you’ve become a sort of role model for me regarding photography, travel, and quirkiness!
So there. Feel influential.
am i in time for the nasty wine hangover? am i too late? i’m not a lurker anyway, never a lurker. you offer and invitation that seems hard for all to resist. you give a good party!
I am waaaay late to the party! Make mine coffee in the morning, or white wine in the evening… or sangria… or lemonade spiked with limoncello. Greetings from Sarataga Springs, NY. I’m not quite sure how I found your blog but I think it was a link from The Rautenbergs blog and she is the daughter of on online friend, so very roundabout. I love your sense of humor and your photos so this is a fun place to be. I hope to have my own blog soon (probably called LuvBritLit, since that has been my online moniker for about 15 years now)and will link to you when it’s all set up. Cheers!
Hey, I don’t have a blog
but I was introduced to your blog the other day by my friend Red who is a Hitcher, i think…….anyway, i nearly snorted out loud at work reading yoru secrets and I am trying to catchup a bit now. Love yoru pics, and really love yoru writing.
Now the creeping is over with, could I have some cake. pleeease?
hanzy x
