What a difference a year makes
Posted under Photography

Well a bit over a year but let’s not split hairs shall we?
Year Two of the 365 Photo A Day project is, frankly, a bit of a challenge. I’m really struggling to get enthused about it and it’s feeling like such a chore at the moment that I’m thinking of giving up. Gasp. I’ve been 365ing since October 2008 and that’s a lot of photos.
One of my self-imposed rules for Year Two is that I am allowed to take photos of the same subjects as last year, but they have to be totally different. Today’s shot is narcissi in a jug by my kitchen window. I’m quite liking it. I even, gasp, ventured in to Photoshop to process it and round the corners. That’s today’s shot.
Rewind to January 2009 and here are the same kind of flowers, same place in my kitchen. I remember being quite pleased with that shot at the time. Today? Not so much. Not in focus, weird processing, bizarre light and a stupid crop that’s not even a ‘regular’ size. Frankly, it’s pretty ugly.

I wonder what next year’s narcissi shot will be? Will I still be 365ing in 2011? Please, no…..make it stop…make it go away [sobs silently, rocking, in a corner....]

WOW ! This year’s is a beauty !
This intrigues me for two reasons; (1) I would think this would be proof enough that you should keep going with the 365 project ~ it obviously has taught you well; and (2) I am so excited because this gives such hope to others who are participating in the project ~ especially since we all try to help each other with suggestions of how to improve, shot by shot, day by day. Thank you for this post…
I love that brightness. I’ve already learned to up up up the exposure. Thank you for keeping it up. Inspiring me, and keep that CC coming.
I vote for the new one, too…..it’s lovely! You are certainly inspiring!

Both are exquisite! Keep cranking them out 365… they’re beautiful!
hey now…please hang around 365 a bit longer :)
and i find it’s so true, when you look back at stuff you loved a while back…they just don’t look as good huh?!
I’m just having trouble finding the time at the moment…but you skip a day or two oh well.. :)
Spud – you should keep going your photo’s are fab!
FWIW in my humble opinion I much prefer your 2010 shot.
you HAVE come a long way, but i do think PS is a slippery slope.
and about those odd crop sizes…how do you fix that and still crop? where’s the camera club when you need it? :-)
I think you should continue. Look at the improvement from one year to the next. Its beautiful!
Congrats on your achievement Spud! The 2 photos are both beautiful, and both remarkable in their difference. You’ll know when you are done…you will just be done!
I saw about some kid who took a self photo everyday for years and you can watch him age, day by day. I would never do that to myself! LOL
No, no. Don’t stop. Please don’t. I find your 365ing so inspiring. Especially the comparison photos. I love this!
yes me too, i love the comparison photographs and they show a HUUUGE progress. try to keep going. while i am travelling through the continent we got a new telephone line (old-fashioned-analoge) to check for a few days, whether this line can be upgraded to broadband ;-) strange approach. so next week we might get the honour to become owners of a 21-century-internet line!!!! maybe-hopefully… hugs from white munich! eliane
