When I was one I had just begun…Happy Birthday to me and a giveaway

Happy Birthday Chez Spud…one today…does getting to my one year blogaversary mean I’m now in the Inner Circle of the 0.0000000001% of people who start a blog and actually keep it going? Although Rate of Blogging has slowed down in recent months, for lack of anything to say rather than lack of enthusiasm for blogging.
365 days, 258 posts, 54,800 views…I’m still not sure what my blog is about…”stuff I think about” is probably the best description I can give it…does it even need a description? It’s a blog. I write stuff about stuff on it. I put pictures on it. Does it need defining further?
Whatever it is, or isn’t, blogging has opened all kinds of doors for me…it’s been a real adventure. Without blogging I wouldn’t have:
- Gone to Blog Camp three times including two trips to Copenhagen where, alas for the Megaboys, I did not happen upon Hans Christian Andersen around town.
- Decided to learn to crochet and, thanks to the patience of Kristina, actually DID learn to crochet and a whole new hobby was born.
- Discovered Persephone Books and the brilliant writing of Dorothy Whipple.
- Set myself a challenge of 39 things to do before I’m 40. It’s just a bit of fun but it’s really inspired me to actually get on a do a number of things I’ve been putting off since forever.
- Been given so much kind, insightful, thoughtful parenting advice and encouragement when I needed it the most.
- Received so much lovely mail, both snail mail and email. Little packages of loveliness have dropped though my door and in to my inbox so often in the past year, so spoiling. So many sweet, thoughtful gifts often for no reason other than, “I saw this and thought of you”. xxx
- Have made a record, of sorts, of the past year as I’m hopeless at keeping diaries. I’m planning to get all my posts from the past year made in to a Blurb book and will look forward to reading my chaotic thoughts and deeds in the years to come and thinking, “What the HELL was I on about?”
Actually I wish I had that Blurb book in front of me now so I could have a quick browse to see what other things I’ve done as a result of blogging. Time swishes past us as such a rate that the details of the last 12 months are already pretty hazy. But, book or no book, what stands out the most for me is what a delight it’s been to make the acquaintance of so many fascinating, articulate, warm, intelligent funny people. What a totally cool bunch us bloggers are, even those queer folk who don’t use WordPress [puzzled icon]. So many lovely new friends were made in the last 12 months, some In Real Life, many more ‘online’ although I really don’t differentiate.
So, to wrap up my Big Blog Love In, I’m having a giveaway to celebrate being one. Leave me a comment, any old sycophantic nonsense will do and I’ll pick a winner on Sunday night UK time. I might even attempt one of those random number generator jobbies. Otherwise names in a hat.

Happy Happy Blog Anniversary Spudbaloo! How could you forget mentioning your SECRETS success? How many of us did you inspire with that wicked fun challenge? It’s still my very favorite part of my blog….need to think of something similarly different! Ha! I raise a glass of bubbly in honor of Chez Spud and toast, Here’s to another year of fabulous photography, witty writing and tales about the extremely adorable mega-boys (I’m including Mr. Spud in that group….just so you know)!

Like the idea of 39 things to do before 40, might have to borrow that one, this summer was supposed to be about doing a whole host of stuff and I have really made very little progress with it… hmmm right think I’d better have a good think about that
