Going, going…gone…my 5yo on his first cycling roadtrip

Team talk with Daddy…
Climbing up the drive
Waiting for the gates to open
Careful…
Don’t let go!
And we’re off..
Thus ensued the longest 40 minutes of my life while MrSpud took my BABY cycling round the lanes. With traffic and everything. And right hand turns. 5 years ago he was a helpless infant. Now he’s whizzing around on the ROAD with VEHICLES and DANGER all around. I may never sleep well again.
Nice bike by the way MrSpud. A girl’s bike, I note with interest. Something wrong with the 4 bikes that you own? Harumph.

Maybe 4 flat tyres?!?!
*gulp* that fills me with fear. But, might as well start them early …
Wow, seriously impressed. Violet barely walks without moaning let alone cycle with two wheels ON THE ROAD!
I found this poem right after E learned to ride a bike…loved it. Happiness to you!
To a Daughter Leaving Home
– Linda Pastan
When I taught you
at eight to
ride a bicycle, loping along
beside you
as you wobbled away
on two round wheels,
my own mouth rounding
in surprise when you pulled
ahead down the curved
path of the park,
I kept waiting for the thud
of your crash as I sprinted to catch up,
while you grew
smaller, more breakable
with distance,
pumping, pumping
for your life, screaming
with laughter,
the hair flapping behind you like a
handkerchief waving goodbye.
SO is that your super-cool girl bike?
Fabulous – one of those defining moments in life – how wonderful to keep a record of it. Now wait for that first car….
Great storytelling Spud!
Bertie looks a little terrified in that first picture :) Or perturbed. Hard to tell :0)
