Janus
Posted under Photo A Day
1 January…New Year’s Day…the cornerstone of each year…looking forward, looking back…just like Janus, the Roman god that gave his name to January. He was two headed, as you are, one looking forward and one looking back. How very useful to have at least two eyes looking behind you ready to spot evil doers and the past catching up with you.
So here I am. 1 January 2011. I’m not one for resolutions or attaching special significance to a date but, yesterday, I sat down for a moment in the midst of non-stop sorting/organising/doing ahead of our house move next week and, from nowhere, I felt a sudden blanket of enthusiasm, energy, excitement and joy for the coming year. I’m not accustomed to such a feeling as I’m most certainly a glass half-empty kind of person. I’m puzzled by this wave of being ‘up’ but I’m not going to look a gift horse in the mouth.
Last year was good, momentous, special, challenging, frustrating and all the rest. I made a secret pact with myself to make 2010 the Year of Creativity and I think it was, although not as much as I’d hoped. I’m not sure what 2011 will hold although it will definitely involve a move in to our ‘forever’ house and all the work it will entail.
Last night I pulled together my favourite photos from 2010 and made a movie of them. I love it, but it’s not really an even representation of the year. And so, here, I pledge to make 2011 the Year of the Photo 365 once again. I did it in 2009. I tried it, half heartedly and failed, in 2010. But 2011 will be the year I take a photo every day, on the day, and have a movie of them to show this time in a year.
Heads down. Here we ago. Again….in the meantime here is 2010 in 4 minutes or so.

Such a lovely post. Wish you the best in 2011! xo
I adore your pictures. Those boys are going to break some hearts ones day. I hope you have a blessed 2011
good strength, good mood and good ideas for your big move and of course for 2011, dear spud!
Very cool, glad you are back for 365.
Can I be cheeky and ask about the movie? I downloaded all my 2010 photo’s to one place via bulkr but not sure where to go then to put them into movie format.
I love your photo movie. I was going to say that I especially love your portraits, but then I saw the flower shots, and loved them too, and then the landscapes. So basically, I love them all!!
Happy New Year to you all.
good Job that (wo)man. I too have felt an UP… so not me at all I”m such a cynic.
Lets embrace it while we can. Are you in a 365 group? or are you doing it for yourself on your blog?
your year in pictures movie is so lovely, you are such a gifted photographer! (did you make the movie with iphoto?)
here’s to a wonderful, rich and uplifting 2011.
Ok, I don’t think it’s the cough medicine speaking…I am so touched and moved. I think it was all the brotherly kissing…such sweetness. It was like seeing my favorite song, “it’s a wonderful world’ in pictures…
