60 365 Non-U Notelets
I love Nancy Mitford. Actually I love all the Mitford sisters, even the crazy ones. I think I was smitten when I read that they kept a pony in the downstairs parlour of a house they had in Kensington, and Muv and Farve were completely cool with that. I lap up any Mitford books that I can…books by them, about them, letters they wrote. It’s a bit like a school girl crush, but that’s OK.

Here are my ‘notelets’ which is a word that would make lovely Nancy wince. It’s not officially included in her U (upper class) non-U (non upper class) terminology though writing paper (U) and note paper (non-U) are. I’m very sure ‘notelets’ would have been included had the word been around in the early part of the 20th century.

Actually they are very splendid polaroid photo cards which laugh in the face of ‘notelets’ and associated non-U nasties.

  1. I’ve been thinking about going to Swinbrook. I wish that you lived close enough to come along with me. We could eat lunch at The Swan.

I read somewhere that the whole U/non-U thing was a bit of a joke. Nancy said she was always having to consult her own list to remember what wasdéclassé. I’m sure that she would approve of your notelets if she were here to admire them!
