Bluebell Wood Walk
Posted under People I love, Photography
Bluebells have been taunting me for a week or so. We have a lovely patch in our garden which catches the late evening sunshine so beautifully. I’ve tried and tried to get a good shot but with little success, rather frustrating. I know bluebells are notoriously tricky to capture but even so, you’d think about about 300 shots there might one or two reasonable attempts. But…no.
I tried a different tactic today, we headed off with friends for a walk in a full on bluebell wood. What a treat it was, filled with the heady scent of wild garlic…
… and rafts of stunning bluebells:
The day was warm, the sun shone, a gentle breeze ruffled along and it was all spectacularly gorgeous. We started the walk along the river, admiring the boats and trying to ignore the traffic noise…then we pottered through a couple of fields before heading in to the wood. At the other side was a beautiful village church, alas locked with stern notices about there being no lead in the church and everything inside being photographed and tagged. Hmm, a slight taint on the otherwise Miss Marple-ish perfection of it all.
I still don’t have ‘the’ bluebell shot, not by a long shot. But it was a perfect morning and the photos are wonderful reminders of a special time which is, until very recently, only what they were supposed to be. I’m sure I miss too many ‘moments’ in my pursuit of ‘the shot’. How foolish of me.
As we ambled back through the wood on the way home Miss Clara climbed up on a tree stump. I saw the light hit her and there it was ‘the shot’. I hurried down the path and ignored her ‘Get me DOWN!’ cries and snappity snapped. The shots aren’t as beautiful as the moment was. But I hope I will always remember Clara, aged 4, dressed in her dress up princess outfit (“For Diggy”, apparently) with her blonde hair hanging loose about her face, blowing in the breeze…surrounded by bluebells and wild garlic.

These photos are absolutely stunning! I don’t know why you don’t think you got a good shot.
I do know what you mean though about missing moments by trying to capture shots. I had that over Easter. ‘Just hold that for a moment – umm, open that egg again….’
Beautiful shots – all of them – but I particularly like the wild garlic and the ones of Clara.
Dreamy!
heavenly!
These shots are magical! I feel like I’m in some fairy story.
Oh my gosh! those pictures of Clara are beautiful.
Beautiful photos. It’s quite tricky to capture the bluebell carpet isn’t it? I think you have though, your pictures are stunning, and the ones of your daughter are definitely ones to frame!
Gorgeous woods, I need to find some bluebells.
Ooooh not my daughter, just a borrowed one from a friend. Thanks for all the kind comments. x
