Playing doctors

Megaboys playing 'doctors' with a pencil for a stethoscope. Odd.

Diggy: “Mummy, what do you want to be when you grow up?”

Me: “Um…older?”

Diggy: “NO! What do you want to BE?”

Me: “Um…happy?”

Diggy, exasperated: “NOOOOOOO!!! What do you want to BE? Like I want to be a surfer boy and a parachute man, and Bertie wants to be a face painter…so what do YOU want to be?”

Me: “Oh, well I don’t want to be anything else. I’m already grown up and I have a proper job which is to [insert long boring description of my job]”

Diggy: [long silence]

Diggy, in a hushed and crestfallen voice:  ”Mummy…that sounds really, really boring. So, what do you want to be when you’re a grown up?”

I might be 40 years old but my 4 year doesn’t think I’m a grown up. Does a happy little dance. What shall I be when I’m a grown up? Any suggestions?

  1. That made me giggle. VIolet knows i’m old and happily tells me. She also loves my job but that’s because it’s glaringly obvious, she wouldn’t have ‘got’ the old one. I think you should retrain as a midwife ;-)

  2. A midwife…behave…

    Next?

  3. god that photo is too flattering. might update for a ‘real’ image complete with awful hair and lines, no trenches. byeee. back to editing. x

  4. Erm. I like you the way you are actually. You’re a dabbler (unprofessionally). Stick to the dabbling, it suits you and makes this place very colourful and let MrS earn the boring money.

  5. Or, and this would suit me. Open a shop (with online shop) dealing in retro – pre-loved and new Scani/funky European bits and bobs. I’ll take anything from old furniture to wallpaper, esp stationery. thanks.

  6. I think there is nothing in the world I would like to do less than have a shop. Not even sure why, just no.

    Migh just stick with Dabbling.

  7. When I grow up I want to be a face painter!

  8. I think you should be a character in a novel when you grow up, kinda Wuthering Heightsy or the chick in Truly Madly Deeply.
Where this comes from i have no idea. :) I want to be a Jen Lancaster when I grow up.

  9. Ha, Laura…you can be a face painter but suggest you don’t let Bertie anywhere near your face (cf Shoe of Doom)

    JG

  10. When I was 5 I wanted to be a grocery store cashier. Because they got to SCAN things. And push all those shiny buttons.

Now, I want to be a millionaire when I grow up. So I can push shiny buttons of my own :)

  11. There’s potential for a gardener!

  12. I love that they see you that way! To me, I think that is the highest form of praise!
