Look at that sky! This image is straight of the camera, just a few curves added since it was shot in RAW. Looks blissful doesn’t it? A perfect May day…blue blue sky…calm…serene. Quite wrong. The warmth of the sun was engaged in a fight to the death with a very, very stiff breeze. And a chilly one to boot. I’m amazed that shot is in focus because I could barely stand still while I was taking it, so strong was the wind.
MrSpud battling with one of our FIVE kites. Yes five. No, I don’t know why either. It was a pretty frustrating experience, just too windy. Shortly after this photo Diggy decided it was too cold. To be fair, he looks freezing…
Even the addition of a winter coat and hat didn’t stop the whinging. We made haste to the pub to get away from the wind, though it was giving it a good go in the pub garden anyway…check out the bunting, trying to make a break for it…

A little hangover from That Wedding I suppose, quite pretty flapping about against the apple tree and wicker fence. And helpfully very ‘on message’ for Family Spud’s primary colour May Day theme..blue sky..blue/white sweaters…blue/red kite…blue [with cold] lips…white [with cold] lips…and then ‘Thelma’ the red and white sailing boat. But what happened to Louise? Froze to death I suppose.

Sun, sand, sea, seaside, shorts, Spring…what perfect weather, what a perfect few hours just poodling about on the beach. The boys played, me and MrSpud read the paper and did that old ‘how times change’ because last year we couldn’t take our eyes off those Megaboys in case they drowned/got in to mischief. There was coffee, and cake. And a trip on the ferry to buy fresh fish. Pretty idyllic by anyone’s standards.
But OH the moaning we had to put up with getting out of the house. One of our boys is being rather, how shall I say…’testing’ at the moment. Today’s ‘test’ involved a major whinge about going to the beach because we’d already been to the beach once this week. I should add that they were different beaches, not that it’s particularly relevant because SHUT UP…do these children not know how fortunate they are to live within an easy drive of a dozen gorgeous beaches? I am heartily sick of being ‘tested’ on a daily basis and have employed every strategy I know to tackle some of the issues.
I feel ground down. I know it’s normal boundary testing, I know it will pass, I know ignoring is the best strategy for most of the low grade ‘testing’. But I feel like giving him a good shake. Moaning about going to the beach because it’s boring? Yeah, looks really boring from that photo doesn’t it?
Not seen. Me. Silently screaming.

Town of my noble birth…ah, blessed art thou Weston-super Mare…let’s overlook the fact that Jeffrey Archer is thou Lord…and the fact that the sea is NEVER in and you have to walk a mile for a paddle…and the fact that your nickname of Weston-super-Mud is so well deserved…anyway, thou art blessed amongst faded English seaside towns and we heart you.
I’m visiting my Dad and his wife as part of our Christmas round robin trip. Today we braved the cold for a run around the beach. Brrrrrrrr….

Of all the pebbles on all the beaches in all the world….we found this one…one in a million, just nestling on the beach like this. Who scribbled on it, and why? Is there treasure buried there? Are they just showing off..if I had a million pounds I’d probably keep it quiet rather than hand out stones inscribed with my net worth on them but then there’s nowt so queer as folk.
We left it there to puzzle generations to come but now I feel twitchy and wish we’d kept it. What if it’s a lucky stone? What if you rub it and a million quid falls in to your lap? Alas I think the chances of finding it again are pretty slim. Say, one in a million?
Whilst I was puzzling the pebble, the megaboys were flying a kite for the first time in their little lives. It was quite a lot of fun…

…it flew up so high in the sky…
..big boy Bertie was In Charge of winding it in…it’s a serious job…

…Diggy thought it was just all too exhausting for words.
